Aston Martin plans to introduce its new sports car with four doors in early 2010 to compete with the Maserati Quattroporte and Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, with the upcoming Audi A7, Porsche Panamera and Lamborghini estoque.
Designed by a team led by Marek Reichman, the new head of design at Aston Martin is a four-door four-seat car constructed on an extended version of the DB9 to the underlying. The VH architecture is at the heart of this manufacturing operation, its modular structure providing such inherent rigidity that it has given the company's designers and engineers the same level of freedom than their predecessors 50 years ago. In today's marketplace, even low volume manufacturers like Aston Martin are governed by strict legislation and the need to balance power, weight distribution, handling and safety.
Based on the unique Aston Martin VH (Vertical / Horizontal) architecture, the Rapide combines the company's commitment to the power, beauty and soul of the practice space and for all contingencies.
It was thought that the post of Quick numbers that are between the two models Porsche Panamera V8. These cars go 0-60 mph in 4 seconds, 4.8 seconds, according to the engine. However, it was confirmed that the Aston Martin Rapide will be powered by a 6.0 liter V12 engine that has been solved, Aston Martin Rapide sports car in May and 470bhp outputs 600Nm of torque. The Quick rear wheels are driven through a gearbox very reactive Touchtronic.
Inside, the Rapide four-seater will be much closer in theme to a Mercedes-Benz CLS as a Mercedes S-class.
On the outside, the integration of rear doors, however, is subtle, so they are not clearly discernible at first glance. The rear doors are "swan wing" doors - rising upwards and outwards as they open allowing access to rear seats.
Up front, the car has lost the concept of quad air, instead of making a grille with two floors, while the rear has a redesigned bumper and the trunk lid, with a chrome strip between the taillights to separate from the mass of the body on the rump.
Aston Martin's press materials call the Rapide a "four-door coupe." But because of the need for a room for the sedan, as the seats, the Fast of the total length is longer than the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and DB9 coupes. The Rapide is 250 mm long and is now over five meters long (12 inches long), and 40 mm high and wide.
The Rapide is the epitome of Aston Martin's low volume, high-tech approach, the synergy of modern methods and materials with traditional techniques to create a new form of craftsmanship for the 21st century.
The Rapide will be the first Aston Martin to be built outside Britain, with a production conducted by Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria. Production will begin in 2010. The production version will be a long glass roof and LED bars on the back, the first two for Aston Martin.
"Fast will exceed expectations to deliver the elegance and practicality, in a form which allows driving pleasure and comfort beyond what exists today," says Dr Ulrich Bez, "The Fast exists in a class all its own, a true Aston Martin high performance and dynamics of excellence that defines the brand, luxury and grand touring sports without equal.
